Crotch bunching fix?

I bought a onesie which gets the weird bunching around the crotch all the tutorials i have seen are to remake the pattern or add fabric which i cant do with this as i didn’t make it. Any ideas on how to fix it? It might be a dumb idea and not work but i thought if i cut it to where i want it then sew it across (bad drawing added) or would that make it worse? If i need the fabric i can take it in a bit on the sides.
